While pursuing academic excellence in itself is enough of a challenge for many, expanding one’s international perspective as well as participation should also be deemed as a top learning priority. With globalization and rapid advancement of technology in the 21^st century, solely achieving academic excellence in isolation is like turning a student into “the frog in the well knows nothing of the great ocean”. Bookstore Bob Mystery

Been getting some weird comments in the comments section asking me where Bookstore Bob is. Then the guy says he's located in some unspecified place deep in "Chicagoland", as the car salesmen put it. Chi town, eh? Ah, that brings me back. I almost lived in Chicago permanently for a while a few years back. About this time of year would be killing season down at the stockyards, the plaintive mooing sounds mingling with the roar and rattle of the el. Vienna hotdogs. Just about now would be thrusting season out in Naperville. Heh. Some memories there. What a time of year this is in the greater Chicagoland area. The skyscrapers all turn green at exactly the same time, because their roots, you know, are all connected under the surface. The very barges on the lake begin to diverge - I've seen it with my own eyes. Bull fights on the copter pad of the Sears Tower. Yeah, I know the town. But I don't know where Bookstore Bob is. Last I heard he was moving to Boston. Ah, Boston. There's a town... But that's for another day.

It's kind of a book report blog. You know, taking what I've been reading and trying to place current events in some kind of larger context. Except when other stuff amuses me. So, it's eclectic, following my reading, the news, my stream-of-consciousness, or web serendipity. A blog, in other words. And hey: What the hell ever happened to Robert "Fightin' Bob" LaFollette, Maury Maverick and Fio LaGuardia. How 'bout "The joy boys of radio/ we chase electrons to and fro"? Or the Great Frongoozi? At least they made a movie about him, or else I'd be wondering:whatever happened to Petey Greene?
